Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Neuro Medicine ICU provides specialized nursing care to critically ill neurological patients, including those with traumatic brain injury, aneurysm, status epilepticus, stroke, and other critical neurologic conditions. This role requires delivering high-level acute care in a state-of-the-art 12-bed ICU, utilizing critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills to manage complex patient needs. The nurse will work within a rotating day/evening/night schedule and participate in on-call, holiday, callback, and charge duties as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill neuro patients in the ICU setting.
• Perform continuous patient assessments and monitor neurological status using NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Administer medications and treatments according to established protocols.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Utilize telemetry monitoring to observe patient cardiac and neurological status.
• Respond to emergencies and provide critical interventions as required.
• Maintain accurate patient documentation and communicate patient status to healthcare providers.
• Participate in unit charge nurse responsibilities and assist with staffing coordination.
• Participate in on-call rotations, holiday coverage, and callback duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State only.
• Minimum of two years of acute care ICU nursing experience.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
• Current knowledge of critical care nursing practices.
• Telemetry monitoring experience.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Proficiency in NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in a neurological ICU or similar critical care setting.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and documentation systems.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• On-call, holiday, callback, and charge nurse responsibilities are required based on unit needs.
• Work environment is a high-acuity neuro ICU requiring specialized nursing care.

Scheduling:

• Rotating shifts including day, evening, and night.
• Shift assignments based on unit scheduling needs with holiday and on-call rotations.
