Why We Perform Lake Drawdowns
Each fall, the Lake Management Board typically decides on performing a lake drawdown, which involves lowering the water level of Fall Mountain Lake. This process serves several important purposes:
- Control Invasive Weeds: Lowering the lake exposes invasive lake and shoreline weeds to the frost, which helps to control their growth and spread.
- Homeowner Maintenance: The drawdown provides homeowners with an opportunity to repair and maintain their docks, beachfronts, and lake walls.
- Association Repairs: Occasionally, other critical repairs or maintenance tasks, such as work on the dam valves, are carried out by the Association during the drawdown.
How Homeowners Can Take Advantage of the Drawdown
We encourage lakefront homeowners to take advantage of the lake drawdown to perform necessary clean-up and repairs. This is the perfect time to:
- Clean Up Your Shoreline: Remove any debris, weeds, and other materials from your shoreline.
- Fix and Maintain Docks: Inspect your dock for any damage and make necessary repairs to ensure its longevity and safety.
- Repair Lake Walls: Check your lake walls for any needed maintenance and perform repairs as required.
Important: During lake drawdown, be aware of serious hazards such as thin or unstable ice, or deep mud that can trap your feet, and uneven ground hidden beneath the surface. Wear appropriate safety gear, avoid working alone, test surfaces before stepping.
Important Considerations for Repairs and Modifications
Please be aware that any construction, repairs and modifications to docks and lake walls will require a permit from the Town of Plymouth and approval from the Fall Mountain Lake Property Owners Association (FMLPOA). Before starting any major work, make sure to:
- Obtain Necessary Permits: Contact the Town of Plymouth to acquire a permit for your planned construction, repairs or modifications.
- Seek Approval from FMLPOA: Bring a copy of approved permit & all information of dimensions & materials to Lake Management. In turn Lake Management will present to the Association Board for final approval.
